About fostering

Fostering is one of the most valuable things you can do for a rescued dog — and it costs you nothing but time and love.

When our dogs arrive from Italy, they've often spent weeks or months in overcrowded pounds or on the streets. Before they're ready to find their forever home, they need somewhere safe and quiet to decompress, recover, and learn to trust again. That's where foster carers come in.

What does fostering involve?

As a foster carer, you provide a temporary home for one of our dogs while they settle into life in the UK. There's no set timeframe — some dogs are ready to move to their forever home quickly, others need a little longer. We ask for your patience and understanding as each dog finds their feet in their own time.

What we cover

All transport costs and pre-travel veterinary costs are covered by SOS Italian Setters.

What we ask of you

All foster carers are visited by one of our home checkers before a dog is placed with them. This helps us ensure the right dog is matched to the right environment — and that you feel fully prepared and supported.

Ready to open your home?

Fostering is a truly life-changing experience — for the dog and for you. If you think you could offer a rescued Italian Setter a temporary haven, we'd love to hear from you:
